City Bridge Trust to support Magpie Dance

Posted on: 14/06/2019

City Bridge's fund sees Magpie Dance’s potential and confirms support for three years.

Magpie Dance, a small registered charity who work with children and adults with learning disabilities, are delighted to have secured three-year funding totalling £100,000 from the City Bridge Trust, the City of London Corporation’s charitable funder.

Magpie Dance will be using the fund to expand their class provision and opportunities for dancers with learning disabilities. It will contribute to the costs of Magpie Dance’s Youth and Adult dance groups; a new regular class for adults and a small contribution to their core and administration costs.

Magpie dancer, Laura, 33, started with Magpie Dance when she was 18. With uneven leg length, and difficulties communicating, she discovered ways to express herself through dance.

“I enjoy the Magpie classes. Alison makes me feel happy and she helps me with my mentor sheet. I have friends and it’s fun…dance makes me feel free”.

Her mum Ruth says Laura takes dance very seriously, and likes to see her daughter interact with the others “At first they danced alongside each other, now they interact”.

Dhruv Patel, Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s City Bridge Trust committee said:
“Our funding will help even more Londoners to access the fantastic classes Magpie Dance has to offer. We fund charities supporting people with learning disabilities right across the capital. It’s exciting to help Magpie Dance, whose work plays key a part in character building, boosting people’s confidence and independence. Tackling disadvantage and inequality across the capital is essential to making London a fairer and better place in which to live.”

Magpie Dance who are delighted that City Bridge Trust has recognised their vital work; continuing to empower people with learning disabilities.
