Trustee Vacancies (up to 4)

Magpie Dance is the UK’s leading dance charity for people with learning disabilities. We deliver regular dance classes, training, and workshops for people with learning disabilities each year and celebrate their work through live and digital public engagement events, benefitting 1,200 participants every year. We are immensely proud that our small operation based in Bromley achieves so much for our community in London, the South East, and beyond, leveraging over 35 years of experience and expertise to enable people with learning disabilities to reach their full personal, social, and artistic potential through dance.

During the pandemic, Magpie Dance adapted quickly and ambitiously to meet the needs of our community through digital means. This transformed the way we operate. Learning from this experience and embracing digital, Magpie Dance is currently experiencing an energetic period of growth. With participants’ experience at the core of all activity, robust quality and monitoring frameworks, and an ambitious business plan, we are excited about what the future holds for Magpie Dance.

Magpie Dance is now looking to appoint up to four individuals to join its Board of Trustees. The Board is responsible for setting the overall strategic direction of the organisation, working to ensure that Magpie Dance is well equipped to enhance the lives of the communities we serve. Our Trustees also act as ambassadors for Magpie Dance, actively promoting our work and leveraging opportunities to advance its mission.

If you would like to play a key role in shaping the exciting future of Magpie Dance and contribute to making positive impact on the lives of people with learning disabilities, we would love to hear from you.

Given the organisation's current priorities and needs, we are especially interested in hearing from candidates with expertise in:

  • Digital
  • Legal
  • HR

Representation of our community is central to our way of working, including at the board level. This means that we particularly welcome applications from candidates who:

  • Have lived experience of disability, neurodiversity, or sensory impairment
  • Live, work, or study in Bromley, or have some other connection to the local area
  • Identify as being from the global majority (this includes people of Black African, Black African Caribbean, South Asian, East Asian, South East Asian, Middle Eastern, Arab, Latinx, Jewish, Romany, Irish Traveller, or mixed/multiple heritage)
  • Identify as male or gender non-binary, as they are currently underrepresented on the board.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis between May and August 2022, with the aim for all new trustees to be in post by January 2023.
