Welcome to our Environmental Promise page! At Magpie Dance, we are committed to reducing any negative impact on the environment that may result from our activities and use our position in the sector to influence and encourage change. Between August 2023 and July 2024, over 100 dancers with learning disabilities took part in Our Land. The project explores climate change, the impact humans are having on the planet now and what this might mean for future generations. Below, you will see work created by our dancers, training that we created for our dancers and much more!
The Green Heart Project
Created as part of the Climate Coalitions Show the Love project 2024 Magpie Dancers explored climate change with a fun day of dance and crafts. ‘The Green Hearts Project’ film is inspired by letters written by our dancers, ‘Dear Future Generations…’.
Home – Dance Film
Created by Magpie Dancers in collaboration with Akram Khan Company, this piece explores animals, their habitats and the impacts of climate change. The film starts by looking at how human activity has affected the habitats of different animals around the world. The film moves on to explore how we can restore nature and depicts a healthy planet our dancers would like to see, that show a planet living in harmony – shared by humans and animals. We finish with the notion: “We have a home. We have hope.”
Breathe – Dance Film
Magpie Wednesday Community dancers explore pollution. Specifically looking air quality. Dancers explored this theme using plastic bags, finding creative ways to choreograph and move with them. Breathe is part of Magpie Dance theme Our Land is in your hands.
Carbon Literacy Training
As part of the environmental goals, we created an short carbon literacy course for our dancers to increase their knowledge of the climate crisis.
