38 Years of Rosas

Anne Teressa De Keersmaeker’s Dance company, Rosas, was established 38 years ago with the premiere of Rosas Danst Rosas. This famous piece is structured around the phases of a day and is known for its interesting use of repetition and rhythm. Since its initial premiere, Rosas Danst Rosas has been performed all over the world, and Magpie Dance is no exception, as we have explored the piece more than once!

In 2018 Magpie Dance Adult Choreographers performed Re:Rosas as a part of the Rosas Remix project. They reworked the piece to create their own version that they performed in the Glades shopping centre in Bromley. Take a look at the piece here. You can also click here to see our behind-the-scenes video.

More recently, we reimagined the piece again with our Youth groups, to create Tinted Roses as part of Re:Imagination … Welcome to Wonderland . This performance has been featured on the Re:Rosas! website, as part of their international project. The Re:Rosas! project is celebrating over 30 years of Rosas Danst Rosas, inviting dancers from around the world to remix the piece and share it on the website. We are so excited to have Tinted Rosesfeatured alongside other performances from dancers all around the world. It is a great way to feel connected to other artists during a time of disconnect.
