Magpie dancers Chloe and James receive this term’s Jack Petchey Awards

Magpie Dance Ambassadors Joe and Robert presented Jack Petchey Achievement awards to this term’s winners, Chloe and James, at the Magpie Youth session.

During the Magpie Youth end of term sharing for, Magpie Dance Ambassadors Joe and Robert presented Chloe and James with Jack Petchey Achievement awards.

“Initiated to recognise outstanding young people aged 11-25 across London and Essex, Jack Petchey Achievement Awards are not solely for academic achievement. Winners are young people who have gone above and beyond to achieve – perhaps when others thought they might fail” (Jack Petchey website).

Nominated and chosen and by their peers, Chloe and James join fellow Magpie dancers Harvey, Emily, Kathryn and Daniel who have also won awards this year. Musician Hans Ferrao also received a Leaders award.

Awards winners receive a certificate, pin badge, a book from Sir Jack himself and a £250 grant to benefit Magpie Dance; leaders receive a £750 grant for their organisation too. Thanks to our winners, our dancers have chosen to spend their grants on a wide variety of aspects to benefit all the participants:

Have an extra musician for our December show
Funded a coach to enable a performance at Guy’s hospital
Have a Saturday workshop and performance from KDE Dance and an intensive three day workshop with KDE Dance
Bought an Ipad for Junior classes
Had workshops with Karl Morgan from Movement Warriors
Funded accessible travel for our trip to ‘Flirt with Reality’ at The Peacock Theatre.
Natasha Britton, Dance Practice Director at Magpie Dance, said: “The Jack Petchey Achievement awards create a wonderful opportunity for our dancers to be recognised for their individual achievements and for the groups to be involved in deciding what is important to them going forward”.

Congratulations to Chloe, James and to all our winners this year, some of whom attended the awards ceremony on 8th July.
