On Thursday 26th October, 35 Magpie Dancers, staff and their families visited The Place theatre in London to see Plastic, Drastic, Fantastic by Akademi as part of our current artistic theme Our Land which explores climate change and the elements.
Plastic Drastic Fantastic is a contemporary dance work by South Asian dance company Akademi, tackling our relationship to plastic, all of it’s uses and the impact on our environment.
Prior to the show, Magpie Dancers also attended an exclusive workshop with Akademi artists where they explored Kathak rhythms, learnt Mudras (hand positions), discussed the uses of plastic in our everyday life and learnt some of the choreography from the show.
Akademi’s Creative Learning Producer, Belinda Sculley said “it was so impressive how quickly and confidently the group picked up the dance moves in the workshop. Learning new choreography (in a new dance form, no less!) is such a skill – it’s clear the group have genuine passion, experience, and talent for dancing. Our artists loved working with the Magpie dancers.”
